Padres News: Peter Seidler Wants to Retain Both AJ Preller, Bob Melvin in 2024, Says Insider
Despite the disappointing season, it looks like if Padres owner Peter Seidler were to have his way, there won't be any change at the top for the Friars in 2024.
Both general manager AJ Preller and manager Bob Melvin have been in some hot water this season due to the lack of success on the field with the All-Star caliber roster that was presented to them.
Many believe that either Preller, Melvin, or both could be gone at the start of next season, but honestly, could it be a good idea to start a mini-rebuild right now?
Unfortunately, San Diego is no longer the place that people once thought it could be.
The lack of success this season and the decisions made by both players and coaches this season prove that the Padres need a leader who is used to winning. They need someone who's been there, and done that.
If the team loses Blake Snell and Josh Hader next season and Juan Soto potentially finds a new home after the 2024 season, it looks like the Padres might be needing to retool their star-studded roster once again.
And to start a winning culture with a club that hasn't experienced much of it, they should start from the top.
However, according to Kevin Acee from the San Diego Union-Tribune, the Padres ownership has no plans of making a change at the top — at least as of right now.
"Seidler has expressed in recent days that he wants both men to remain in 2024. And that seems to be where this is headed if certain parameters of a productive coexistence can be figured out."

The key words there are "productive coexistence." Meaning if both sides don't want to work with each other in 2024, then they won't.
Hopefully, things can get figured out for next year, and the Padres can find a way to contend for a championship, just like so many thought they would do this year.
