Padres News: RHP Joe Musgrove Suffers Freak Injury, Could Miss Significant Time
Padres RHP Joe Musgrove suffered a fractured toe in the weight room on Tuesday, according to the team and reported by The Athletic's Dennis Lin. He broke the big toe on his left foot.
While the team hasn't sent out additional information yet, he's expected to miss an extended period of time with the injury.
Musgrove is one of the more important players on this Padres team. The 30-year-old went 10-7 with a 2.93 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in 30 starts last season, and was named to the All-Star team for the first time in his career.
Musgrove is entering the first year of a five-year, $100 million contract, that will pay him $20 million every year until his age-34 season.
Hopefully, this is just a minor setback, and Musgrove is able to get back on the mound soon and work on a second consecutive All-Star season. He threw 181 innings for the team last year, after throwing 181.1 innings in his first year with the team in 2021.
