The San Diego Padres could be getting a major piece to their puzzle back soon. The team is on the cusp of activating relief pitcher Robert Suarez this week. He has missed the entire season thus far as he has dealt with an elbow injury.

He has been working his way back to the team and recently spent time in a rehab appearance for Triple-A El Paso. It wasn't a pretty showing for the right-hander as he was rocked in the appearance. The Padres still should activate him soon and this could have just been rust from Suarez.

"Robert Suarez (elbow) allowed two runs on three hits in two-thirds of an inning last night in his latest rehab appearance for Triple-A El Paso. It isn’t known how that will affect the Padres’ plans, which had seemed to be leaning toward activating him as soon as Thursday."

Per The SD Union-Tribune

Suarez was a major contributor to the success of the Padres last season. He held an ERA of 2.27 and a WHIP of 1.05. They have missed him this year, but it seems that they could soon be getting their guy back into the mix.

It would be huge for the Friars to get Suarez back as this team tries to climb out of the deep hole in the standings. The 2023 season has been incredibly frustrating for the Padres but maybe getting one of their guys back will help things.

San Diego has their work cut out for them to get back into contention but they have the roster to do so. They just need to put together a good few weeks of baseball and then anything is possible for this squad.
