After spending the majority of this season with a division rival, one important member of last year's postseason puzzle for the Padres is coming back to the major league club.

A Wild Card series hero that many Friars fans are familiar with, Jurickson Profar is coming back to San Diego for the final weeks of the regular season.

Jurickson Profar, who played for the Padres from 2020-22, will rejoin the club Friday as it begins a three-game series against the Astros. The Padres signed the 30-year-old Profar as a free agent a week ago, four days after he was released by the Rockies and assigned him to Triple-A.

Struggling in his time with the Rockies earlier in the season, Profar returns to a familiar location for his second go around with many of his former teammates at Petco Park.

As the Padres are heavily struggling with injury due to various ailments in recent weeks, the team takes a chance on one of their own from before.

With the team from 2020-2022, Profar was a switch-hitting bat who could play across the infield in various spots.

Dominating the Mets in the team's playoff series against them last year, Profar's bat was a big reason why the team eventually went to the NLCS against the Phillies before bowing out to Philadelphia for a chance at the World Series.

The former No. 1 prospect at one point in time, Profar hasn't exactly lived up to those lofty expectations had for him when scouting him from the international pool, but the veteran has maintained a good career in MLB since 2012.

Now 30, Profar is coming back home and his presence in the clubhouse should bring some energy to a team that's desperately needed it in 2023
