When the San Diego Padres went on their spending and trading spree over the last couple of seasons, one of the biggest questions that opposing fans and analysts had for the squad was who exactly was going to fill out depth positions?

Obviously, bringing in the star-power does great to sell tickets and merchandise but what about the on-field production. Is the price tag really worth if the stars are not bringing in all the success?

The Friars have found their bullpen as their weakest aspect just a couple of weeks into 2023 and they've had to learn that the hard way through numerous blown leads. However, it appears that RHP Seth Lugo is proposing a solution of his own.

He joined the San Diego-Union Tribune and discussed his role moving forward following solid performances as a starter and revealed that he would not mind serving as relief if it would help the Friars.

“I feel like that’s kind of how I’ve always been my whole career,” said Lugo. “I’ll help where the team needs help. Hopefully, my best value is in the rotation. But if not, I’ll play my part where I can."

Lugo has pitched out of the bullpen for the majority of his time in the MLB but what caught his eye about the role the Padres offered was that he would finally be a part of the starting rotation. In 2022, he posted a 3.60 ERA and recorded 69 strikeouts in 65 innings.

Historically, he has been a better pitcher when he comes out of the bullpen but that's likely to change if he continues the productivity he's shown this year.
