The San Diego Padres have revamped their roster season by season. Everywhere you look, they have a star player, from their infield to their outfield and even in their rotation. They aren’t scared to put their money where their mouth is and grab star players whenever they become available.

Padres skipper Bob Melvin spoke with the media and was asked if his 2023 roster is among the best he’s managed. Melvin said he’s never seen this much star-power in one clubhouse.

Melvin has managed four different clubs: the Seattle Mariners, Arizona Diamondbacks, Oakland Athletics, and now the Padres. Melvin's best two seasons came in 2018-2019 while managing with Athletics and had a great team that led him to back-to-back 97 wins. They were led by Matt Chapman, Blake Treinen, Marcus Seiman, Matt Olsen, and Jed Lowrie. The A’s were unable to make it past the Wild Card round, and Melvin ultimately left for San Diego after the 2021 season.

No disrespect to that 2018-2019 squad up in Oakland, but this Padres team has way more talent than those A’s teams.

The Padres are led by superstars Juan Soto, Feranndo Tatis Jr., and Manny Machado. They have the pitching in Joe Musgrove, Yu Darvish, and Blake Snell. Top to bottom, San Diego is probably the most complete team in the league.

Of course, we can’t forget newly acquired all-star infielder Xander Bogaerts in early December.

The Friars could be the team to beat in the National League, and there is no doubt they’ll be a threat to their division rivals, Los Angeles Dodgers.

The only challenge that Melvin was overcome is the egos in the clubhouse. Can he have these men play as a collective unit and lead San Diego to the promise land?
