It has been an overly frustrating season for the San Diego Padres, and things have seemed to get worse as the year has gone on. They went from World Series hopefuls, to possibly not even making the postseason altogether.

It’s the kind of thing that can weigh on a team and players over time. The pressure that was put on them held lofty expectations over the franchise, and they haven’t been able to live up to the hype.

After a bad loss to the Houston Astros, star outfielder Juan Soto let his emotions go. You could just tell that this season has been troubling for him with the way it has gone.

“It feels bad,” Juan Soto said. “It feels the worst. … We just gotta go out there and keep playing baseball. Things just are not going our way, you know?”

Nobody could have predicted that the Padres season would have gone like this. They were the trendy pick over the offseason, but it has turned into a nightmare year for them.

They have now been eliminated from the NL West contention with a few weeks left to go in the season. A wild-card spot seems bleak as well, but they will continue to play until the games are done.

Even manager Bob Melvin couldn’t hold in his frustrations after the loss on Sunday.

“A lot bad stuff for us,” manager Bob Melvin said. “Obviously, defensively wasn’t great. We left some runners on early in the game when it could have been impactful, and then it got away from us. So not our finest moment.”

This year has been a tough pill to swallow for San Diego, and they won’t likely get over it anytime soon. The offseason will bring more questions than answers for this franchise, but at least they’ll get a fresh start.

After the kind of year that have had, it may be welcomed at this point. There is still a slim chance of turning things around for the season, but the chances aren’t looking good.
