The San Diego Padres outfielder Trent Grisham is not off to such an excellent start for the Friars. He's batting .198 as of Wednesday, but his defense is his best attribute.

Nonetheless, Grisham is being more aggressive compared to years past. He was passive-aggressive in years past; however, he is swinging his bat more this season. Grisham has a 45.8 percent swig rate, which is the highest in his career and more than 8 percent from last season.

He's swinging more, which is good, but much of it is out of the zone. Padres insider for the San Diego Tribune Kevin Acee spoke to Trent about his chases, and he said he's not too worried about that.

“I don’t think that I’m going to continue to chase,” he said. “It’s not something that I’m worried about. I think in the past, it’s something that I concerned myself with, which in my case I’m a naturally passive guy, because I care about swinging at strikes. And that’s all well and good, but at the same time, I wasn’t swinging at enough pitches, and I was kind of hurting myself."

Grisham needs to find a middle ground; it's nice that he is swinging, but he needs to be a bit more conservative in his approach.

Padres skipper Bob Melvin also likes his outfielders approach.

“Which is good,” Melvin said. “Because he was a little too passive last year. “

Aggressive is always better than not, and it seems like the 26-year-old will figure it out soon.

The lefty hitter has a .729 OPS with four homers and nine RBIs in 24 games to start the season.
