Padres News: Wil Myers Doesn't Seem Nostalgic About His Time in San Diego
Wil Myers' time in San Diego was filled with ups and downs, to put it nicely. The Padres acquired Myers after the 2014 season -- the first time AJ Preller went all in -- in a deal that ultimately cost RHP Joe Ross and a then mostly unknown Trea Turner, among others.
Ultimately Wil went on to spend 8 seasons with the Friars before leaving in free agency this past offseason. Last week before a spring training game in Arizona, the 2016 All-Star had an encounter with a Padres fan where it seemed like the emotion was pretty one sided.
The exchange went like this:
Fan: "We miss you in San Diego, Wil."
Myers: "I think you guys will be alright without me."
Fan: "Still love ya."
Wil did come away with a little smile on his face, so maybe there was a little more emotion to his side after all.
The Reds visit the Padres on Wednesday where, if Myers is in the lineup in Peoria, should be an emotional time for all.
As one fan said in the comments of the above IG reel, "no doubt he will get a standing ovation first game back in SD."
Will Myers spent 8 seasons in San Diego, posting a .254/.330/.451 triple slash line with 171 doubles, 134 home runs, and 433 runs batted in over 888 games. When healthy, he was always willing to move around and play where ever his manager needed him that night and contributed to some of the biggest moments in recent Padre history.
He signed a one-year deal worth $7.5 million with the Cincinnati Reds this offseason.
