Padres News: Xander Bogaerts Already Named Favorite to Win NL MVP
Xander Bogaerts has been on go-mode with the San Diego Padres ever since the first game of the season. He made it clear that after a disappointing exit from the WBC while he suited up for Team Netherlands, he could not wait for the season to start and showcase to the fans what he had in store.
And that he certainly has. In the Padres' six games in 2023 so far, he has gotten at least one hit in each of them. Bogaerts is currently slashing an elite .409/.440/.955 and has easily been the most consistent form of offense for a San Diego squad that has has three wins and three losses right now.
The MLB world has witnessed Bogaerts' hot start and seen that he is up to par with the best players in the league. Matter of fact, Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter has him as one of his top choices to bring home the NL Most Valuable Player.
It isn't too wild to see this for most Padres fans because Bogaerts has always been one of the best shortstops in the league. However, I feel like many people came into the season expecting Manny Machado or Juan Soto to be the heavy hitters for the team off the jump. However, X-Man holds that throne for now.
They are going to need as much as they can get out of him in their upcoming road series against the Atlanta Braves. Their first game of that is Thursday at 4:20 pm PT.
