The San Diego Padres went big fish hunting this past off-season and got themselves one of the best infielders in the game, Xander Bogaerts. Bogaerts spent his first ten seasons in Boston before signing a monster deal with the Padres.

Signing Bogaerts this past winter was huge for the Friars as they are doing their best to compete for years to come against the best teams in the league. The Padres will try to capture their first World Series title this season, and they might need to go through their weekend series opponent to get to the Fall classic, the Atlanta Braves. The Braves are one of the best teams in the league and are a force to be reckoned with, and Xander realizes that after their 1-1 split through their first two games.

“It was really intense,” said Bogaerts, whose sixth-inning single drove in the deciding run. “Especially since it’s so close — we have the lead, they have the lead, we get the lead. You have two games that are really, really close. And that’s what kind of gets adrenaline going, especially when you’re early in the season knowing that this is one of the best teams in National League.”

The Friars handed the Braves their second loss of the season and will try to win the series outright today and tomorrow.

Atlanta is a deep team with all the talent and tools to win it all, and the edge they have over San Diego is their experience. The 2021 champs will try to win their second World Series in three seasons, but the gold and brown might have something to say about that. This weekend series could be the first taste of many that the Padres will have against the Braves.

One thing is for sure; these two teams will see October baseball this season.
