Padres News: Xander Bogaerts Gets a Well-Deserved Day Off Against Reds
The San Diego Padres are in the middle of one of their best stretches this season yet. They look to capture their fourth straight win as they take on the Cincinnati Reds, a streak they have yet to go on in 2023 and continue seeing a ton of positive production at the plate.
Fernando Tatis Jr. is coming off a 3-5 performance at-bat in his home opener for the Friars and Juan Soto appears to finally be finding his footing.
However, the lineup has been released ahead of their 6:40 pm PT game time and it looks San Diego will have to make magic happen without one of their top guys in Xander Bogaerts.
X-Man started off the season extremely hot as he was looking like the only star from the Friars that actually ready since day one. However, it's been a rough stretch of games for him as he contracted some sort of illness and has been trying to play through it since.
For both baseball and life reasons, he did not want to miss their trip to Mexico City this past weekend but he also failed to get better during that time.
“It’s been a rough couple days,” said Bogaerts. "Going into the season you don’t think of any of those type of things,” said Bogaerts, whose average has dropped 45 points as he has gone 5-for-29 over his past eight games. “You just want to help the team on a daily basis. I’d just like to get my body back feeling right.”

Thus far into his 2023 campaign, Bogaerts is slashing .304/.392/.500 and has totaled six home runs. He hasn't been as electric as of late but thanks to the improvement from the rest of his team, there hasn't been as much pressure on him.
We hope our star shortstop gets well soon and trust me, it's going to be a scary sight once he is back and fully healthy.
