Padres News: Xander Bogaerts Reveals Scary Reason Behind Recent Slump
San Diego Padres' star shortstop, Xander Bogaerts, returned to the lineup in Sunday's game against the New York Yankees after a limited appearance on Saturday. The Padres were being cautious with Bogaerts due to a lingering wrist injury that resurfaced earlier this month. During spring training, he received a cortisone shot that provided temporary relief, but unfortunately, the pain returned, making him uncomfortable on the field.
The 30-year-old star told Padres insider Kevin Acee that his recent struggles and lingering injury have frustrated him.
“So it’s been a minute,” he said. “And it’s very frustrating, and it’s very annoying.”
“I didn’t feel anything pretty much after that,” Boagerts said. “I don’t know if that has to do with it, because that was the only play that was close to my wrist. Normally it does come back on hit by pitches in that area. So I really don’t know. I really don’t know what it is. That’s my only guess that it probably got irritated. Because there were no other places that were remotely close.”
At the beginning of the 2023 season, Xander led multiple offensive team categories and looked like the early season NL MVP. However, over the past 30 games, his performance has taken a dip, and the wrist has much to do with that.
The team and fans alike hope that Xander can regain his form from the early part of the season. The Friars might need it if they want any shot at climbing back into the playoff race.
Bogaerts' wrist has been a persistent issue, and it has undoubtedly affected his performance. As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Xander Bogaerts and his journey to overcome this setback. Hopefully, this can be resolved, and it doesn't bother him when it matters most.
