The Padres were put in a tricky spot early in Friday's loss to the Milwaukee Brewers after pitcher Yu Darvish allowed 5 runs in the third inning.

Darvish finished his night pitching just 4 innings and allowing 6 hits, including a home run that drove in 3 runs.

The 37-year-old has struggled on the mound in his last three starts. He hasn't pitched in a winning effort since late July and has allowed 4 or more runs in each of his last three performances, tied for the longest streak in his career.

According to reports from The San Diego Union-Tribune, Darvish spent extra time than usual in the training room following the game, but said he was "fine."

"Maybe a bit tired, but I'm fine," Darvish said through interpreter Shingo Horie. "... I'm not gonna get deep into that. I mean, everybody has something, but I'm fine."

The Padres are now 6.5 games back in the NL Wild Card race as the season's end is just over a month away.

Darvish has struggled to keep his hits down this season, allowing over 5.5 hits per start. With Darvish getting up there in age, a long season could be taking a toll on his body, bleeding into his performance.

Darvish isn't the only Padres pitcher who is struggling to stay healthy amidst a playoff push that could be going a lot better. Starter Joe Musgrove has been shut down since Aug. 4 with a right shoulder injury. His return this season will likely depend on the viability of the Padres' playoff hopes.

The Padres take on the Brewers again at 4:10 p.m. PDT. Pedro Avila is scheduled to make the start.
