Padres News: Yu Darvish Heads to Injured List, Waldron Recalled
Just when the San Diego Padres season couldn’t get any tougher, the team suffered another injury to their starting rotation. They are already missing starter Joe Musgrove and now will be without right-hander Yu Darvish as he makes his way to the injured list.
In a corresponding move, the team has recalled right-hander Matt Waldron from Triple-A to fill his spot.
"The cause of the inflammation is not known, so the severity of the injury and timetable for a return or whether surgery might be required is also not known. The 37-year-old Darvish is signed for another five years at a cost of $78 million."

Things have already started to hurt after the Friars were swept over the weekend by the Milwaukee Brewers, and now this. They will need to keep making their push toward the postseason without one of their main starters.
On the year, Darvish has a record of 8-10 with an ERA of 4.56. He has also struck out 141 batters over 136.1 innings of work.
It has been an up-and-down year for the right-hander, but having his veteran presence on the mound could have really helped this team.
They are going to miss Darvish down the stretch of the season, especially his ability to eat innings. San Diego needs all the help that they can get right now, so this is poor timing, to say the least.
Waldron now gets another chance in the big leagues to help this team out. The 26-year-old made his MLB debut earlier this year after spending time in the minors since being drafted in 2019 by the Cleveland Guardians organization. He has posted a 6.52 ERA this season, appearing in two games for the Padres.
