A reliable piece for the 2023 Padres rotation, Yu Darvish's season has unfortunately come to a premature end due to injury.

Dealing with an arm issue that has sidelined him for the past couple of weeks, the Japanese righty will miss the remainder of the year in what's been an overall disappointing season on that front for the Padres.

Avoiding the worst case scenario of a second Tommy John surgery, Darvish will regroup for San Diego's 2024 campaign after another productive year on the mound for the Friars.

Though it wasn't the best ERA mark of his career, Darvish's overall season in over 130 innings of work was a consistent fixture of the team's rotation when many of his teammates, including Joe Musgrove, also got hurt.

After winning the WBC title for his country alongside fellow superstar Shohei Ohtani over the US, Darvish's start to the year could not have been better.

Although preseason expectations remained sky high for a potential World Series title in San Diego, it's gone down the drain for the Padres in recent months.

Struggling to even get a winning record this late into September, the Padres' season has definitely been difficult to witness both from the dugout and in the stands.

Looking to regroup for 2024, the Padres decided the best course of action would be to rest their veteran starter until next spring.

It wasn't all bad for Darvish while with the Friars this season as he broke the record for strikeouts thrown by a Japanese born pitcher playing in MLB, surpassing icon Hideo Nomo for the honor.

Though the individual accolade is nice as fellow starter Blake Snell might receive one of his own this season, Darvish would likely gladly concede such a fate for the chance to pitch in the postseason again this year.
