Padres Players React to Surprising Streak That Came Too Late
It has been a very frustrating year for the San Diego Padres thus far, and unless they put together a crazy turnaround, they will miss the postseason. For a team that was supposed to be a World Series contender, it has been a very underwhelming year for the Friars.
They haven’t been able to put together any sort of consistency this season, and it has cost them in the standings. Despite them outscoring their opponents by a good margin, the Padres still find themselves with a losing record as we head into the final few weeks of the year.
But the team has started to put together a little better play of late. It has felt like a breath of fresh air for this ballclub after such a grueling season.
“It feels good,” Soto said. “It was a long road trip. Two great series and one that was a little rough in Houston. But it was a great road trip and a great start to go back home.”

San Diego went 5-1 last week, with series victories over the Los Angeles Dodgers and Oakland Athletics. Their season is still technically alive, so they will keep fighting until they are officially eliminated from contention.
“More than anything, it’s just getting what was been a problem for us all year off our back,” manager Bob Melvin said. “We gotta keep going and win more than four in a row.”

This is something that the Padres have wanted all year long. If they had been able to put the wins together weeks ago, they could have helped change their fate. Now with two weeks left, it could be a little too late, but if anything, they could take the momentum into the offseason.
“Took a long time,” Xander Bogaerts said. “Something very surprising. We didn’t expect it to take this long.”

No matter what happens this year, there hasn’t been any quit in this team. They are pushing all of their cards in now, and just waiting to see if anything happens here.
