Padres Prospects Reveal Anxious Feelings Hoping They Weren't Involved in Dylan Cease Trade
On Wednesday night, the San Diego Padres traded several highly ranked prospects for Chicago White Sox ace Dylan Cease. While it was an exciting move for the Friars and their fans, there's a human aspect to every baseball transaction that is often overlooked.
A couple Padres prospects spoke with Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune after the trade. They recounted their anxieties about whether or not they were involved, and were going to leave the clubhouse and their friends.
Top right-handed pitching prospect Dylan Lesko shared how he felt when he got the news about the trade but had not yet heard about the return:
"Every text we got was like a little panic attack — Is this the one? We all made it through."

Robby Snelling, the organization's third-ranked prospect, echoed the sentiment of his teammate,
"It wasn’t a fun hour-and-a-half to two hours of just waiting around."

Often, players learn who was involved in a trade at the same time as reporters and fans. So they wait around refreshing their social media feeds, waiting to see the full trade package.
After the Cease trade, a story came out about pitcher Steven Wilson, who was involved in the trade. Wilson was reportedly with the team, getting ready to leave with for the airport for the Padres' season-opening series in South Korea when he received the news. He then had to abruptly pack up his stuff and meet his new team.
Cease did not arrive with the team in South Korea on the charter flight. He will join the team later Friday evening on a separate flight. The Padres parted ways with Wilson and three prospects in exchange for the Chicago White Sox pitcher.
While fans anticipate his debut, it's worth keeping in mind the Padres' prospects who are no longer nervously sitting on the edge of their seats.
