Even though the San Diego Padres were not able to come together and will out a win in their early outing against the Minnesota Twins on Thursday, it was not due to Yu Darvish. He played in just his seventh game of the 2023 season and allowed just four hits with two runs.

The Twins ended up taking advantage once Brent Honeywell checked in the game in the seventh inning and were able to come up on three runs immediately to will them to a 5-3 victory.

Many Friars fans were initially confused as to why Darvish was pulled out before the seventh inning due to the solid production he was showcasing. When it was revealed that arm tightness was the reason for Bob Melvin's decision to put Honeywell on the mound early.

Darvish has been very solid for the Padres this season as he is posting a 3.16 ERA thus far and has only given up over three runs in a game twice thus far.

Especially considering that he had a later start with the clubhouse than expected, any type of injury to him would weaken a San Diego rotation that already has its issues.

Fortunately, both Melvin and Darvish revealed that the decision to not play in the 7th inning and on was merely a safety precaution for the 36-year-old.

“He’ll be fine for his next start,” Melvin said. “I just didn’t want him to have to go out there and pitch the seventh inning if I didn’t think he was 100 percent.”

Darvish is not worried that it will be something that haunts him down the line.

"It's no concern for me at all," said Darvish with the help of his trainer. "You sometimes feel that even throwing in the bullpen. In this case for me today when I was in the warmup pitches and I was shaking my arm a little bit. That caught Bob's attention and like I mentioned earlier, the decision was to keep it on the safe side and not push it."

We hope all is good and healthy for Darvish moving forward!
