It's pretty crazy to think that through this first stretch of the San Diego Padres' 2023 season, they have been without the likes of Robert Suarez. In 45 games with the Friars last season, he was able to compile a 2.27 with a 1.049 WHIP and provided consistency for them at the pitching mound.

Whenever he came into the game, he was usually the Padres' best option to hold onto a lead they had already built up in prior innings or to keep the amount of runs low while their batters got them back into it.

Unfortunately, Suarez has yet to suit up for San Diego this season due to a tricky elbow injury. Despite there being no clear tears or structural damage in the right elbow, it continues to remain enflamed and very uncomfortable for him to throw with.

The Friars got off to a rough start in April and fans of the franchise were begging for his return due to multiple blown leads and a bullpen that looked very inexperienced.

Well it looks like they may get what they want sooner rather than later as team manager Bob Melvin has revealed some good news surrounding the 32-year-old RHP.

"I think we're getting close to a throwing progression," said Melvin.

This would definitely be a step in the right direction and would also mean that we'll likely see Suarez back with the team more as he attempts to make his comeback.

In other news when it comes to the pitching staff, Melvin also shed some light on Jose Azocar who was recently played on the IL due to elbow inflammation as well and had to undergo an MRI to see if there were any further issues.

"It doesn't look like there's any loose bodies in there," said Melvin. "It certainly sounded like it to me but he certainly sounded much better today and something induced the swelling in there but its down and I think they're talking in a couple days, maybe he starts doing some baseball stuff again."(Via 97.3 The Fan)

We cannot wait to welcome both of these guys back and wish them the smoothest recoveries possible.
