At long last, the rough 2023 season for the San Diego Padres has come to an end. It was a very frustrating year all around for the organization, and it saw them fail to live up to expectations that were placed on them entering the year.

Now, the team entering into the offseason determined to fix the issues that plagued them. They want to make sure that they get back to the postseason, but after a disappointing year, nothing is guaranteed.

MLB writer Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report believes that San Diego will make their return to the postseason as early as next year. They have all the talent to do so and just need to execute things better next year.

“Still, it was never “2023 World Series or Bust” for the Padres. They were expensively constructed to win

at least

one title at some point in the 2023-28 window with the likes of Fernando Tatis Jr., Xander Bogaerts, Manny Machado, Joe Musgrove and Yu Darvish all signed to long-term deals. They might want to get it done next year before Juan Soto reaches free agency, though.”

Per Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report

The Friars still will have much of the same core next season, even if they lose a few players to free agency. Their biggest issues were leadership problems, and the inability to win close games this season. So, if they can fix that even a little bit, then they will be fine.

“It's a massive disappointment that San Diego didn't make the postseason this year, particularly while posting one of the 10 best run differentials in the majors.”

Per Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report

San Diego likely will be motivated to redeem themselves next season, and that should scare the rest of the league. The Padres play much better as underdogs, and that is exactly what they will be next season, even with their collection of talent.

The 2024 season seems like a good chance for them to get back to the postseason after the struggles of this year. This offseason will be one to watch for the team, and they can right the wrongs from this season over the winter.
