Padres Rumors: Insider Proposes Blockbuster Trade to Fortify San Diego's Rotation

This could be a major upgrade for the Friars

The San Diego Padres are looking to move on from their forgettable 2023 season and move forward for the 2024 season. The Friars have all the talent in the world to compete with the best of them; however, we've learned that talent is not enough.

The Padres could look a bit different in 2024 by possibly trading one of their All-Stars. The move could come due to the front office heading in another direction, but even though that's supposedly part of the plan, you never know what can happen this offseason. An opportunity that the Padres cannot refuse might present itself, and it could come by the name of White Sox's dominant right-handed pitcher, Dylan Cease.

There are many rumbles regarding Cease and his potential move from Chicago. It's all hearsay, but that didn't stop MLB insider for Bleacher Report Zachary Rymer from creating 10 landing spots for the right pitcher, with your Padres coming in at No. 4.

Trade Proposal: San Diego Padres get RHP Dylan Cease; Chicago White Sox get LHP Robby Snelling, OF Samuel Zavala

The White Sox would probably love to get Ethan Salas or Jackson Merrill, but one assumes neither is leaving San Diego's system. They're only the No. 5 and No. 13 prospects in all of MLB, after all.

Even still, this deal would net the White Sox MLB's No. 31 and No. 93 talents. Only Zavala would fulfill the club's need for position players, but it could be hard for them to say no to Snelling. He's the best left-handed pitching prospect not named Kyle Harrison.

Cease could be a much-needed add for the Friars pitching rotation. There is little to no chance that their one-time All-Star Blake Snell will sign back with the team so Cease could be his replacement.

San Diego would lack a left-handed pitcher, with only one on their rotation at the moment in Jay Groome, but Cease is coming off a solid campaign considering the team he was a part of.

There's a good chance the 27-year-old could be moved, and we'll see how aggressive the Friars will be to add him in the gold and brown.
