In this story:

Ethan Salas has been producing since day 1 in the minor leagues. He tore through Low-A, and he quickly earned a promotion to High-A. So the question on everyone's mind is 'When could we see this kid in the show?'

And when I say kid, I literally mean kid, because Salas barely turned 17 on June 1.

With the Padres struggles at catcher this season, it begs the question even more of whether or not we'll see Salas at the majors as soon as next year.

Well, here's what the Athletic has to say:

It remains early — and the Padres have been guilty of rushing certain other prospects in the past — but a big-league debut at 18 or 19 feels within reach.

So far in his career, which has only lasted about 2 and a half months, he's hitting .265 with 9 home runs and 36 RBI. Not too shabby for somebody who could still be in high school.

Like the article says, the Padres have been guilty of rushing other prospects to the majors too quickly. Think of Luis Campusano or Ryan Weathers.

Bringing Salas up at the right time could be the key to unlocking the star potential many people have seen in him.

I mean there's a reason he was just named the #5 overall prospect in baseball at the ripe old age of 17.

While it seems like things are going in the right direction for now, once players get to the upper levels of the minor leagues, it seems to get a little bit harder. So don't be discouraged if he starts to struggle a little bit once he makes it up to AA and AAA.

He's still young. Like VERY young. Let him develop and mature a little bit before you give him the call.

When do you think we'll see Salas in San Diego?
