San Diego Padres star outfielder Juan Soto has been one of the biggest storylines of the early baseball offseason. The team has reportedly been looking into moving him this winter, as he enters the final year of his contract.

MLB writer Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report put together some trade packages for Soto, and the Yankees were among them. New York was listed as the top landing spot for the star outfielder. Here was the package:

"Trade Package: LHP Nestor Cortes, RHP Drew Thorpe and SS Trey Sweeney for Juan Soto"

Per Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report

San Diego would get a few solid prospects back in the deal, as well as a quality starter in Cortes. Cortes is under team control for two more years, which is something that the Padres could factor into the equation.

The Padres could use the prospects to land another MLB player, or they could add them to their farm system in the hopes of another superstar becoming available. They would have plenty of options to work with after a Soto trade.

The New York Yankees have been one of the most talked about teams in regard to a potential Soto trade, and typically when there is this much smoke, there is also fire. New York has a need for a left-handed hitting power bat, and they could use another star in the Bronx.

Soto would perfectly slot into their lineup, and give them one of the best in the game. Alongside Aaron Judge, the Yankees would be a feared roster once again if they were to acquire Soto.

After missing the postseason last year, the Yankees almost have to make a splash this offseason. And getting Soto would be one of the biggest that they could make. He would instantly become a fan favorite, and the team has the financial capability to retain him long-term as well.

A move to New York seems like the most likely at this point if the Friars decide to move their star player. There is always the chance that they hold onto him entering the season, but they would then risk the possibility of him getting hurt or having a down year, seeing his trade value dip.
