Padres Rumors: Pundit Thinks Bob Melvin Could Lose His Job This Year
The San Diego Padres' season hasn’t gone the way they had hoped. The team came into the 2023 season ready to fully compete for a World Series and were considered a favorite by many to win it all. However, they have failed to live up to the expectations put on them and it has been a real struggle.
They find themselves in a real deep hole as we get closer and closer to the trade deadline. It still remains to be seen what direction the organization will go but most people guess they will try to be buyers to give themselves a chance.
They went all-in over the offseason and owe it to their fans to at least try with the roster they have.
However, if the Padres can’t turn things around this season and do indeed miss the postseason, it will be seen as one of the biggest letdowns in recent baseball history. And normally when something like that happens, there are major ramifications within the organization.
Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report made a list of MLB managers that could be on the hot seat for the second half of the season and San Diego manager Bob Melvin made the cut.
“There's only so much a manager can actually control, but a gigantic knock against Bob Melvin is how situationally pathetic the Padres have been.”
Per Bleacher Report
Melvin was brought in last season to help guide this team to a World Series and in his first year, they reached the NLCS. They then added in more talent and had everything ready for them this year.
Obviously, Melvin isn’t the one going out onto the field to play but he could likely be the first big move made. The Friars have a short window to win with the age of this current group so they can’t afford to wait around.
Melvin likely doesn’t deserve to be fired but it would make sense. General Manager AJ Preller is known for being opportunistic and he if he doesn’t believe in Melvin anymore, he won’t hesitate to move on from him.
