The Padres might turn into sellers by Tuesday.

In this story:

If you would've told me last year that two of those names in the headline would be on the market just a year after making their way to San Diego, I would've told you you're crazy.

But the scenario is there where Juan Soto, Josh Hader and Blake Snell could all be gone by Tuesday afternoon. Jon Heyman of the New York Post laid things out in his latest trade deadline piece:

Sources say that though the Padres still hope to buy, they are now listening on Soto plus star starter Blake Snell and star closer Josh Hader in case things go further south. A trade of Soto remains unlikely, even more unlikely than deals involving free agents to be Snell and Hader, but everything is being considered for MLB’s unluckiest team....

1. Soto:

Still a long shot. Chance to be traded: 10 percent.

5. Blake Snell:

If the majors’ ERA leader becomes available, he will be the best starter out there. Trade chances: 20 percent

7. Josh Hader:

His trade a year ago upset the Brewers’ clubhouse. Trade chances: 20 percent.

The fact of the matter is that the Padres farm system is depleted after the major moves they made last year at the deadline to get both Hader and Soto.

They need to start rebuilding, and if this season gets any worse, the Padres are going to lose both Hader and Snell to free agency, and they'll get nothing in return for them.

They beat the Dodgers in the NLDS last year, I'd see that as a win. But with the way this team is built, the only way to grow is by trading someone.

One of the reasons why the Dodgers keep winning the division is because their farm system is consistently ranked in the top 10 in the league. When somebody goes down with an injury, the Dodgers rely on the help of minor leaguers, or role players on cheap contracts to fill the role until the injured player is recovered.

The Padres don't have that luxury.

One way to make sure you have enough talent around this already talented roster is to get guys that are MLB ready, and players that are young enough to be around a while.

Do you think the Padres will move off of any of these guys at the deadline?
