When looking at the state of the San Diego Padres, there's still plenty of intrigue surrounding the franchise.

Will they choose to sell off at the trade deadline and, if so, who could be on their way out? Or will they look to stand pat or buy at the deadline to try to improve their chances at a dramatic turnaround and try to make a run to the playoffs.

Well, ESPN has taken a look around the MLB, and the Padres will play under the bright lights of primetime.

San Diego will host the Los Angeles Dodgers on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball on August 6.

As things stand right now, the Padres still have a lineup loaded with stars, with Fernando Tatis, Jr., Juan Soto, Manny Machado and Xander Bogaerts occupying four of the starting nine spots.

Aside from their offense, the Padres have a few stars on the mound, too, with starters Yu Darvish and Blake Snell and closer Josh Hader still on the roster.

San Diego does have a sizable hole to climb out of though, as they're six games out of playoff spot and 10 games out of first in the NL West.

That three-game set with the division-leading Dodgers could prove rather pivotal in the Padres' playoff hopes, and that Sunday night game may be quite the show.

The Dodgers may make some moves at the trade deadline -- they've been rumored to be in the mix for Lucas Giolito and even Shohei Ohtani -- and that contest may be a showcase of some of the best star power in the sport.

If San Diego decides to push all their chips in and make a run at the postseason, that'll definitely be an entertaining series, especially if the Padres acquire big names at the deadline.

One thing is for sure though. You can catch Dodgers vs. Padres in primetime soon.
