There was just no way that the Padres could start their season off 0-3 after the incredible game that SDSU played just hours before Saturday's first pitch. With thousands arriving early to Petco Park to watch and show support, our Friars had to feel some type of motivation after seeing them win in the last second and advance to the National Championship. They came with their A-game against the Colorado Rockies and won 8-4.

Xander Bogaerts once again got the ball rolling for San Diego with a two-run homer at the bottom of the first. He's been their most reliable player at bat by far in these first three games and that contract is looking more worth it every day.

Matt Carpenter would then add even more runs to the board as his double in the third inning allowed Jake Cronenworth, off of a new contract, and Juan Soto came home.

The Rockies would then heat up a little bit themselves and add four straight runs themselves. Ezequiel Tovar started the momentum with a sacrifice groundout that gave Mike Moustakas the opportunity to score.

Charlie Blackmon then connected on a double to bring Kris Bryant and then came home himself thanks a to a big, two-run home run from C.J. Cron. Cron continues his power slugging from their first match against the Padres.

In between Colorado's hot streak, Luis Campusano was able to get a sacrifice pop-up to centerfield in his starting season debut and Cronenworth scored once again. The game was 5-4 at this point with the Friars up.

However, the Padres' two biggest stars finally saw some plate success that led to the squad handling business at the end of the game.

All Manny Machado needed was a single in the sixth inning that brought Jose Azocar in and Juan Soto secure his first hit of the season that allowed Rougned Odor and Azocar to score in the eighth inning. The Friars finished the match with a season-high eight runs.

Michael Wacha also took care of business in his first game at the mound as he pitched six innings and only allowed six hits with four runs.
