Padres Score: Unexpected Duo Guide The Friars to Victory
Your San Diego Padres get out of Arizona taking three out of the four matchups this weekend. The Padres survived the late surge made by the D-Backs today, 7-5. The Padres get their 12th win of the season and once again go back to .500.
The offense seemed to find its stride, and for today, they can thank an unexpected duo for most of their offesne. Padres first baseman Jake Cronenworth and DH Matt Carpenter carried the load with their bats today.
The offense got going early, scoring three runs in the first inning thanks to the abovementioned duo. Cronenworth went 2-for-3 today with two runs and two RBIs, while Carpenter went 3-for-3 with one run, one home run, and five RBIs for the Friars.
Fernando Tatis Jr. is on a mini hit streak as he is on a three-game hit streak, and Manny's defense was spectacular, as always.
Although the Friars picked up the win, they lost their righty ace, Yu Darvish, to an apparent leg injury. He was taken out of the game after throwing his 102nd pitch of the game and started grabbing the back of his leg. There is no update on him yet, but we're hoping for the best. Here's how it went down.
Losing Darvish would be a massive blow, especially after just getting back Joe Musgrove.
Regardless, Darvish got his first win of the year, while Josh Hader picked up his eighth save of the season.
San Diego has the day off tomorrow and will head to Chicago to take on the Cubbies for a three-game series. Hopefully, those bats will stay awake from now on. Lefty ace Blake Snell will be on the mound for your Friars.
Enjoy the day off, boys!
