There wasn’t much that went right for the San Diego Padres in the 2023 season, as they struggled to find any sort of consistency throughout. They ended up missing the playoffs in disappointing fashion, and now they will be heading into the offseason searching for answers.

However, one of the few things that did go their way this past season was the performance put together by starting pitcher Blake Snell all year. He was special for the Friars in 2023, and it is likely to lead him to earn his second Cy Young award.

He was so good this season that he earned a special honor from his fellow players. Snell was voted as the Players Choice Awards Outstanding Pitcher of the Year for his accomplishments.

He was almost unhittable at different times throughout the season, and he helped keep the Padres playoff hopes alive. Snell was easily the best pitcher in baseball for the year, so this award is more than justifiable from his peers.

Snell made 32 starts for San Diego this season, posting an ERA of just 2.25. He also put up a WHIP of 1.19 and he struck out 234 batters over 180 innings of work. Simply put, Snell was as dominant as can be for the Friars.

Despite his dominance, Snell is expected to leave San Diego in free agency this winter. The team seemingly has no plans to pay him what it would take to retain him, and there will be a team that will shell out money for his services.

Snell proved that he is still one of the best pitchers in the game today, and he has earned himself a massive contract this offseason due to his play. His time in San Diego may be coming to an abrupt end, but fans will never forget his incredible 2023 season.
