Much of the talk surrounding the San Diego Padres right now has not been pleasant. At the beginning of this month, it finally looked like things were starting to click within the offense and slowly, the Friars were watching their batting statistics rise each game.

The mentality went from 'Let's focus on getting a firm hold on our division' versus 'Are we World Series contenders yet?'. Everybody knows the potential of this group and that's why this past weekend is a horrible reflection of what all of our superstars stand for.

And it gets even worse. It's the top of the ninth inning on Mother's Day and as the final game of SD's away series against the Dodgers winds down, they have yet to even score a run. After dropping the first two games of the series, seemingly no improvements were made and it didn't look the leaders of our squad were too upset about it.

Fernando Tatis Jr., Manny Machado, and Juan Soto have all been very vocal recently as the Padres try to find their identity this year and overcome a mediocre start. However, laughing in the dugout after their biggest NLDS competition just embarrassed them in three straight outings is a very poor look on the franchise.

San Diego once again finds themselves as the second-worst team in the league when it comes to batting average as they are currently boasting .225 as a group. On the other hand, they are forking over the third highest amount of money to their players just behind the New York Mets and New York Yankees.

We are all for maintaining a positive attitude over here but that moment in time was not one to be smiling. The whole world just watched LA make a statement to a Friars squad that they have some history with and SD must respond.
