Padres Stars Detail Dustin May's Elite Pitching in Saturday's Loss
Your San Diego Padres failed to get their second win in a row against their division rivals Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday night. The Padres dropped their 16th game of the season, 2-1, in a game where runs were tough to produce.
San Diego had multiple opportunities to get the win besides the offense not playing particularly well but credit the Dodger arms for their lockdown defense. The Dodgers pitchers were on last night, especially their righty starter Dustin May. The 25-year-old was dealing for the Dodgers, as Friars' manager Bob Melvin told Padres' insider Kevin Acee May was hot.
“You’d like to do some damage off him,” Melvin said. “… but couldn’t do that. Our one big opportunity was off Graterol in the eighth and couldn’t catch him.”
The Padres got their first and only run of the game in the eighth inning, where they started on a good note. Catcher Brett Sullivan doubled to left; Fernando Tatis Jr. came up next, doubled, and scored Sullivan with zero outs; however, the Padres failed to bring in Tatis from there. Mann Machado was up next; he grounded out to third, which moved Tatis to third; then Juan Soto and Xander Bogaerts grounded out, and their last hope at the top of the lineup died there.
Soto told Kevin Acee what he was trying to do on his last AB in the eighth.
“I was trying to look for a high pitch, try to drive it to the outfield,” Soto said. “I was expecting the cutter, but he got me a little quicker with his move and stuff, so I wasn’t expecting that move that quick. … I just couldn’t get my barrel out there.”
This weekend series is now tied 1-1, and your San Diego Padres will look for a more efficient offense on Sunday Night Baseball.
