San Diego Padres' young superstar Fernando Tatis Jr has been making waves since his return to the lineup in late April. Despite the criticism he faced due to his 80-game suspension for testing positive for PEDs last season—a suspension that extended into the 2023 season—Tatis has responded with exceptional play on the field, silencing his critics somewhat.

Tatis was well aware that his suspension would draw some blowback, and he was prepared for it. Fans, particularly those of the New York Yankees, didn't hold back in expressing their disapproval during the three-game series in the Bronx this weekend. They directed foul language and harsh words at him, but rather than letting it affect him negatively, the 24-year-old sensation embraced it and used it as fuel for his performance.

“I show up on the big stage,” Tatis said Saturday afternoon. “I just like to be out there. I like good energy. I always get good feedback. This is a good series. This is great for baseball, and I’m just happy to be part of it.”

“I just embrace it,” Tatis said. “There’s times that you can give a little bit back to the fans. There are times that, depends on the game, you just need to focus and lock it in. This game belongs to the fans, and it’s just good to give a good show out there.”

Fernando seemed to relish playing in Yankee Stadium, and the statistics back it up. It didn't take long for Tatis to find his rhythm once he returned to the lineup. So far, through 33 games, Tatis is slashing .250/.293/.479 with a .772 OPS. As of late, he's struggled a bit, but knowing Tatis, it won't take long for him to pick it back up.

Tatis is learning to navigate the aftermath of his suspension, and he understands the importance of moving forward. However, he knows when to sound off on the haters, and he's done that with his play and, at times, with his words.

Nonetheless, Tatis Jr. has proven time and time again that he has what it takes to shine, and he'll continue to do him.
