Padres to Sign ex-Giants Reliever to Four-Year Contract: Report
The San Diego Padres have added more depth to their bullpen, reportedly striking a four-year, $16.5 million contract with Wandy Peralta on Wednesday.
Per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the deal is pending a physical and includes three opt-outs.
After losing closer Josh Hader to the Houston Astros, and seeing relievers Luis Garcia and Nick Martinez walk in free agency, the Padres have been focused on rebuilding their bullpen.
They have added Korean right-hander Woo-Suk Go, Japanese lefty Yuki Matsui, and righties Jhony Brito and Randy Vásquez in the Juan Soto trade with the Yankees.
Peralta, 32, has spent parts of eight seasons with the Cincinnati Reds, San Francisco Giants, and New York Yankees. He is coming off the best year in his career, with 8.5 strikeouts per nine across 54 innings with the Yankees.
Matsui and Tom Cosgrove were the only other left-handers in the Padres' projected major league bullpen. Neither has a full major league season under their belts.
