Rougned Odor & Wacha Lead Padres to Biggest Win of May
Solid pitching from start to finish, a lead that was captured and held on to, and big hits from players lower in the lineup? Christmas truly did come early for Padres fans during their dominant 7-0 win over the Boston Red Sox.
First things first, we have to give a big hand for Michael Wacha who took care of business at the mound. He is only starting pitcher for the Friars that has captured at least two wins in the past two weeks. Well, when you pitch six scoreless innings with four strikeouts, that is a recipe for success.
And, of course, we have the other man of the hour in Rougned Odor as he connected on two huge double's that really got the Padres' offense rolling for the first time in what felt like weeks.
Fans in attendance at Petco Park needed something to be excited about and they've been showing through all of the early struggles. Out of the 25 home games held at their home stadium this season, 17 of them have already been sold out.
Odor need exactly what was necessary and his first double allowed Jake Cronenworth, Matt Carpenter, and Xander Bogaerts to all come home and give the Friars a solid 4-0 lead in the first inning.
Odor would then come back for round two in the sixth inning as he hit another double that allowed Ha-Seong Kim to extend the lead to 7-0 and keep it there.
The 29-year-old was mainly brought in to provide experience and toughness to this Friars squad. He certainly lit a fire under the team with his Sunday performance and following the win, he only wanted to praise his teammates.
"I believe in everybody in this club," said Odor. "I believe in every single guy in here and I think we got everything in here, we don't need somebody else. We're just going to keep competing and keep playing like how we did today."
