When it comes to the major cities of California, sports at both the professional and collegiate level are very well-represented. Los Angeles, San Fransisco, and Sacramento are all home to a number of elite teams and seem to always be in the biggest of tournaments.

Then you take a look at San Diego and everybody kind of brushes them off when it comes to athletics. Without a doubt, it is still one of the most beautiful vacation spots and tons of tourists usually find their way there but it's no secret that it's been hard for the city to hold on to their sports teams. Both the Clippers and Chargers have left in the past and your San Diego Padres are the lone franchise from the four major sports associations in America to still reside there.

However, a certain university in the area has been making tremendous strides these past few weeks and making sure Daygo is respected in the sports world. Fans of the NCAA March Madness know exactly what I'm talking about but in case you haven't noticed, San Diego State University has been on a magical basketball run this year and reached the Elite 8 for the first time in their school's history.

In order to do so, they had to take one number-one ranked Alabama and were able to completely shut down Brandon Miller who is projected to be a lottery pick in this year's NBA draft.

For the past couple of seasons, head coach Brian Dutcher has been putting together a squad that has equipped them for such a run this year. Their starting shooting guard Matt Bradley has led the way for them and possesses the ability to score at all three levels.

During this run, the city of San Diego has come together and provided tremendous support for these college athletes. The environment and energy around the fans right now mirrors how it was last postseason for the Padres.

With the noise that SDSU is making right now along with the huge season the Friars are set to have, it seems like San Diego is in good hands right now when it comes to athletics. They may not have as many teams as other cities but the ones they do are thriving right now.
