The Padres Set a New Record Against the Dodgers at Petco Park on Saturday
En route to the Padres' 8-3 win over the Dodgers Saturday night, the team put on a record-setting performance in front of the home fans.
According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the team's seven-run rally at the end of the game was something that has never been seen before at Petco Park.
The seven runs the Padres scored in the eighth inning last night were their most runs in any inning ever at Petco Park against the Dodgers and their most in any inning in this tortuous relationship since scoring eight runs in the third inning of a game on Sept. 16, 2006, at Dodger Stadium. Before then it was tough to find the Padres scoring more than seven runs in an inning against the Dodgers.
The last time the Friars scored seven in an inning was in 1991 at the old Jack Murphy Stadium.
Only eight players on this year's roster were alive to witness that in the 90s. In that game, Tony Gwynn, Fred McGriff, and Tony Fernandez all contributed to the high-scoring fourth inning.
Despite being 2-3 against the Dodgers at Petco this season, the Padres have recently been very good against LA when playing at home.
The Friars clinched a trip to the NLCS last season after beating the Dodgers in four games including two wins in San Diego.
Now that they overcame the 3-1 deficit in last night's game, the team should have some confidence when going up against its rivals.
The Padres will look to see if they can continue their high-scoring inning from Saturday night into the final two games of the series against the Dodgers.
