Unfortunate Scene with Manny Machado Caught on Camera as Padres Season Comes Undone

The Padres' season is slipping away.

The following video is a likely depiction of how many Padres fans feel at this moment, as San Diego faces an eight-game deficit in the Wild Card after losing seven of their last 10 games.

(Warning: The following clip contains a graphic beatdown of an innocent water cooler).

After popping out with runners on first and third in the seventh inning, Machado beat the hell out of a water cooler and threw his helmet in frustration.

“Should have never taken it out on the cooler,” Machado said. “Poor cooler. But it’s personal. I just want to come up clutch there.”

The Padres have not been able to capitalize on a winning streak despite showing flashes of greatness this season. They haven't been .500 since May 11, despite being a game shy 5 times over the following months.

The Padres have 31 games remaining. 31 games to prove that their season is anything but a colossal failure and a colossal waste of money. Upcoming free agents Blake Snell and Josh Hader could walk after this season. Juan Soto could follow them out the door a year later.

The narrative that the players don't care certainly cannot apply to all of them. Even if Machado's outburst in the locker room shows a lack of control, the message is clear. Some of the Padres want to win and the fact that they aren't is incredibly frustrating.
