San Diego Padres Place Yu Darvish On Injured List
The San Diego Padres have placed starter Yu Darvish on the 15-day injured list. Darvish heads to the IL due to neck tightness, and the Padres have called up right-hander Logan Gillaspie, via Padres Communications.
This is a significant loss for the Padres for at least the next two weeks, as Darvish is the team's co-ace alongside Joe Musgrove. Darvish earned both the Padres' starts for their first game of the regular season in Seoul, South Korea, as well as the team's home opener eight days later.
Through five starts this season, Darvish is 0-1 with a 4.18 ERA. He's the most proven of the Padres' starters, having made five All-Star teams through his 11-year MLB career. He was slated to get his next start Saturday, but the Padres will instead seek out a replacement. Currently, Musgrove, Michael King, Dylan Cease and Matt Waldron make up the rest of the starting rotation.
The Padres are playing their most consistent baseball of the young season right now, having won five of their last six games entering Wednesday. Currently, Cease and Waldron lead the team in ERA, with Cease holding a 1.99 ERA and Waldron having a 3.14 ERA.
