Bryson Stott Launches First Career Leadoff, Sparks Massive Inning for Phillies
The Philadelphia Phillies desperately needed a spark on Sunday after a terrible start to the 2023 MLB season. Saturday featured position player Josh Harrison pitching for the second time in 15 games.
So on Sunday, it was a huge morale boost to see second baseman Bryson Stott launch a leadoff home run to begin the game and give the Phillies a 1-0 lead.
It was the first career leadoff home run for Stott in his short career. It also extended his hitting streak to 16 games. He is really coming into himself as a player.
Stott's home run travelled 378-feet and came off the bat at 101.4-mph with a 36 degree launch angle.
Philadelphia needed a spark and there it was. That shot opened the flood gates as the Phillies went on to score eight more runs in the first, highlighted by a Jake Cave bases-clearing double to bring the score to 6-0.
Harrison then brough Cave home with an RBI-single.
With one out in the first inning, Stott actually got to come back up to the plate as the Phillies batted around.
Trea Turner made it 8-0 on an infield hit that scored Harrison from third base.
Kyle Schwarber then took his turn and launched a double to right field, scoring Turner from first base to make it 9-0.
It was a wildly successful first inning for the Phillies and spotted ace Aaron Nola nine runs before he ever took the mound.
