Bohm Impressing Philadelphia Phillies At the Plate Early
Alec Bohm arrived in Clearwater, Fla., with 10-to-15 pounds of added muscle.
The results have been noteworthy.
In the Philadelphia Phillies’ 9-7 Grapefruit League victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday, Bohm blasted a two-run home run to left-center field and ripped a line drive single to right.
Bohm isn’t necessarily concerned about hitting home runs. He just wants to consistently hit the ball hard to all fields.
“That’s where I’m at,” Bohm told reporters. “I’m not just trying to pull the ball and hit homers. That’s me, the line drive to right field. I don’t want to take that part of my game away at all.”
“We don’t want him to lose that (opposite-field approach),” Phillies manager Rob Thomson added. “But we want him to be able to pull the ball when he needs to pull the ball.”
Bohm hit .280 with 13 home runs and 72 RBI last season.
In three career seasons with the Phillies, Bohm owns a .277 average with 24 homers and 142 RBI.
