Bryce Harper Going Through Historic Power Drought But Isn’t Concerned

Philadelphia Phillies superstar Bryce Harper is going through one of the worst power droughts of his career but doesn't seem too concerned.

Bryce Harper carried the Philadelphia Phillies into the World Series with a scintillating run in the postseason.

Who can ever forget Harper’s home run against the San Diego Padres which left Citizens Bank Park shaking with glee?

Harper then defied all odds and returned extra early from Tommy John surgery.

During the Phillies’ recent 14-4 stretch, Harper is hitting .274 with four doubles, nine RBI and a .701 OPS.

About the only thing that the two-time Most Valuable Player hasn’t done is hit the baseball over the fence.

Harper hasn’t homered since May 25 and the 21-game streak is the third-longest dry spell of his career.

He has only three homers this season.

Should Phillies fans be concerned?

“I’ve just got to stay the course, right?” Harper told reporters. “I can’t try to do it because if I try to do it, then I’m going to punch out and not get on base. I’ve got to take my walks. I’ve got to keep getting on base and have good days. I’ve never really struggled with power in my career, I can say. It’s not me talking great about myself, but I just feel like the power will come, those numbers will come. But again, I can’t try to do that. If I try to do it, then it’s just not going to be good.”

The Phillies are winning and Harper’s presence is a major reason why.

The home runs will come. History proves that.

“Of course, the power numbers aren’t there,” Harper said. “But I feel strong. I feel good. I feel like my at-bats have been good. I can always get better and improve, but where I’m at right now I feel pretty good.”

Harper has been a streaky hitter throughout his career. Don’t be surprised to see a home run burst soon. It happens every season. There’s no reason to believe that it won’t happen again.
