Controversial MLB Host Says He'll Retire if D-Backs Defeat Phillies
Tensions will be running high in Game 7 of the National League Championship Series.
The Philadelphia Phillies are looking to get back to their second World Series in a row, while the Arizona Diamondbacks are trying to get to their first since 2001.
Originally, it looked like the Phillies were going to run away with this series after winning the first two games. Then, the Diamondbacks tied up the NLCS two separate times to unthinkably force a Game 7.
This had controversial host, Chris "Mad Dog" Russo, proclaim that he would step down from his job if Arizona advanced to the World Series.
"And I’ll say this right now, and Bob Raissman, write it down, if they win the next two games and win this series in seven games … if they win, I will retire on the spot," Russo said on his SiriusXM radio show.
That would certainly make some people happy and it seems like Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo is in that camp.
"I’m looking forward to that," he told Bob Nightengale when he was made aware of Russo's comments.
Luvollo expanded further and didn't hold back, saying, "There's nothing better than a wise guy New Yorker saying something and then having to chomp on those words. That's how I'm processing it. It will be great."
Russo clarified that he would only retire from his radio show on SiriusXM and not the televisions spots he does on ESPN's First Take and High Heat on MLB Network.
Still, he seemingly is ready to live up to his end of that statement if Arizona is able to advance, saying on his radio show that this could be the last time that he appears on those airwaves.
Whether or not this actually comes to fruition depends on if Philadelphia wins Game 7 and if Russo is able to step away contractually.
Just a little bit more anticipation in the sports world for this Game 7 matchup.
