Former Philadelphia Phillies catcher Wilson Ramos has signed a deal with the Long Island Ducks in the Atlantic League as he continues a comeback to the Majors.

The Ducks are an independent league team, but it’s a step up for Ramos, who started this season in the Mexican League.

Ramos, 35, hasn’t played in the Majors since 2021, when he played a combined 44 games with the Detroit Tigers and the Cleveland Guardians, where he batted a combined .205 with eight home runs and 20 RBI.

In 2022 he spent part of the season with the Texas Rangers and their Triple-A affiliate, the Round Rock Express.

He spent part of the 2018 season with Philadelphia. Ramos came to Philadelphia in a deadline deal from Tampa Bay. Overall that season he batted .306 with 15 home runs and 70 RBI. With the Phillies that season he batted .337 with a home run and 17 RBI.

As a hitter, Ramos has a career batting average of .271 with 136 home runs and 536 RBI. He’s a two-time All-Star and a Silver Slugger winner.
