Former Philadelphia Phillies Manager Fired by Giants
The Philadelphia Phillies are celebrating their second consecutive postseason appearance with their manager Rob Thomson.
It's his first year as the official manager after holding the interim tag during 2022 when he took over for the fired Joe Girardi in June.
His hiring has been a home run for this Phillies team as he's connected with the players and pushed the right buttons to get them motivated and into the right spots for success.
While this celebration is taking place, another former Philadelphia manager is looking for a new job.
ESPN's MLB Insider, Jeff Passan, reported that the San Francisco Giants fired Gabe Kapler after missing the playoffs for the second consecutive season.
This comes two years after winning National League Manager of the Year when he led the team to 107 wins, the most in franchise history.
They won the NL West division that season, but were eliminated in the NLDS by the Los Angeles Dodgers during the playoffs.
Since that season, Kapler and the Giants did not finish over .500, prompting the front office to make a change.
Kapler served as the manager of the Phillies during 2018 and 2019, where he compiled a record of 161-163, failing to finish above third in the division either year.
He was not a fan favorite during his tenure and was greeted with heavy boos when he returned to Philadelphia as manager of San Francisco.
Kapler was later replaced by Girardi following two seasons in charge of the Phillies.
Whether or not the 48-year-old will get another opportunity in the MLB as the head man is to be seen.
