Strahm Acting Like Ace of Philadelphia Phillies Rotation
Matt Strahm was signed to a two-year, $15 million deal to help solidify the Philadelphia Phillies’ bullpen.
Instead, he has become their most reliable starter.
Strahm tossed five scoreless innings in his second start as the Phillies blasted the Miami Marlins 15-3 on Monday. He gave up four hits with six strikeouts and one walk.
In three appearances with two starts this season, the left-hander has a 0.00 ERA with 10 strikeouts.
"I love pitching. It doesn't matter when. I just love pitching," Strahm said.
Aaron Nola, Zack Wheeler and Taijuan Walker have been inconsistent with bouts of wildness. Ranger Suarez has been sidelined with an injury and Bailey Falter has been effective.
Even in limited action, Strahm has been a pleasant surprise.
And much needed.
"I've been down in the bullpen when you have a starter who's on a pitch count and I know how frustrating that can be,” Strahm said. “So just attack the hitters, throw the ball over the plate and get them out because our bullpen has been working a lot."
If Strahm can keep throwing scoreless innings, the Phillies will reap the benefits.
With a number of injuries to key players, Strahm’s production is even more valuable.
