Nick Castellanos Turned Into Philadelphia Phillies Legend During NLDS
When looking at the final series numbers, it seems like the Philadelphia Phillies cruised through the NLDS round, but for those watching, there were some nerve wracking moments.
The Phillies had to come from behind twice against the Atlanta Braves in Games 3 and 4.
When the stadium was starting to get nervous energy, it was Nick Castellanos who provided a jolt of electricity.
In Game 3, Castellanos immediately answered Ozzie Albies' RBI single in the top of the third inning with a solo shot in the next frame.
He did the same thing in Game 4, answering Austin Riley's solo home run in the fourth inning with one of his own in the bottom of the inning.
It cannot be overstated how important those moments were for Philadelphia.
In both instances, the Braves' pitchers were settled in as their historic offense took the lead first in both games.
Castellanos was the one who got the crowd back into the game and the one who rallied the team to secure two straight home wins.
The right fielder was a maligned player last season during the playoffs.
He had a slash line of .185/.232/.246 with zero home runs, 7 RBI and more strikeouts (18) than hits (12).
That was not the production the Phillies were looking for when they signed him to a five-year, $100 contract before the 2022 season.
Castellanos has completely flipped the script this postseason with a .391/.440/1.000 slash line, four home runs and five RBI in six games.
All four of his homers came at Citizens Bank Park as he became the first person in MLB history to hit multiple homers in back-to-back playoff games.
He is a big reason why Philadelphia has advanced to their second consecutive NLCS round in the postseason.
The once maligned slugger has now turned himself into a Phillies legend.
