Philadelphia Phillies Announce Major Front Office Promotions
As the Philadelphia Phillies get ready to navigate this highly anticipated offseason, president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski has announced two promotions within their front office.
In his announcement on Wednesday, Dombrowski revealed that Brian Barber and Preston Mattingly have been promoted to assistant general managers.
"Brian and Preston have done a tremendous job for us in leading our amateur scouting and player development departments, respectively. Our minor league talent has continued to progress because of the hard work of Brian and Preston and their staffs. Both Brian and Preston will continue to lead their respective departments while growing within our organization," Dombrowski said.
Barber previously held the title of director, amateur scouting before being named assistant general manager, amateur scouting.
He's overseen the Phillies' draft process that has brought four Top-100 prospects in MLB's Pipeline to Philadelphia's minor league farm system.
Andrew Painter and Mick Abel are highly-coveted pitching prospects and Justin Crawford and Aidan Miller have tons of potential as they continue to grow.
Overseeing this growth has been Mattingly, who held the title of director, player development before being promoted to assistant general manager, player development.
The Phillies' pipeline has been given much more attention in recent years and they've started to have impact players join their Major League roster from the minors.
That was something that Bryce Harper told ownership they should focus on if they wanted to build a perennial contender.
Under the leadership of Barber and Mattingly, Philadelphia has been able to start building a strong pipeline of homegrown talent instead of solely focusing on signing free agents.
With these promotions, the two executives should continue to play a major role in the organization moving forward.
