Philadelphia Phillies Blow NLCS as They Crumble at Home
It's hard to fathom considering how dominant the Philadelphia Phillies have been at home during the postseason the past couple years.
But, they completely fell apart in Game 6 and Game 7 to blow the National League Championship Series.
They were dealt a 4-2 loss that ended their season on Tuesday night in front of a sold out crowd at Citizens Bank Park.
Things got off to a nerve-wracking start early when the Arizona Diamondbacks struck in the first inning.
After two singles off of Ranger Suarez, the Diamondbacks were able to get home a run when the Phillies couldn't turn a double play.
Alec Bohm tied the game 1-1 with a solo homer in the second inning.
It seemed like that calmed Philadelphia down and gave them the momentum they were looking for.
They took the lead in the fourth inning off a Bryson Stott RBI double.
J.T. Realmuto singled to left the next batter, but Stott was unable to score.
That proved to be costly and the story of the game. The Phillies were unable to do anything with runners in scoring position all night and for the majority of this series.
In the top of the fifth inning, Arizona delivered a fatal blow, scoring two runs to take a 3-2 lead.
That was the only lead they needed, as Corbin Carroll added an insurance run in the seventh to make it 4-2.
Philadelphia had a chance to answer in their frame of the seventh inning.
They got back-to-back walks with one out, but Trea Turner and Bryce Harper both flied out to end the inning without any damage done.
It's a disappointing end to the Phillies' season once again as they lose a playoff series after having a lead.
They'll have a long offseason to think about what could have been before starting 2024.
