The Chicago White Sox are now without executive vice president Ken Williams and general manager Rick Hahn after both were fired by owner Jerry Reinsdorf on Tuesday afternoon.

It's been an abysmal season for the White Sox who underperformed and then saw a massive sell-off at the MLB trade deadline.

It's not what anyone on the Southside expected, especially being in the American League Central, the weakest division in all of baseball.

While shocking, it may have been necessary.

So the question now is "who will take over the top job?"

According to MLB Network's Jon Morosi, Philadelphia Phillies director of player development Preston Mattingly could be in line for Chicago's top job.

Preston, Don Mattingly's son, spent time with the San Diego Padres helping lead their scouting department before making the move to Philadelphia in 2022.

A widely respected executive in his own right, the younger Mattingly has a penchant for finding, developing and then promoting young talent.

He has also had time to learn from one of the best baseball operations guys in the game in Dave Dombrowski over the past few seasons.

Young, charismatic and always keeping an eye on the future, Mattingly could be an excellent choice for the White Sox who are looking to revamp their culture.
